Congratulations on our New Head Baseball Coach Steve Madril!!


A lifelong Riverside native and left handed pitcher, played High School Baseball at Arlington High School under legendary coach, Gary Rungo. Went on to play collegiately at UC Riverside under legendary coaches Jack Smitheran and Doug Smith before graduating in 2000. 2x All-CCAA Conference pitcher for the Highlanders. Played in the Alaska Baseball League under Riverside Athletic Hall of Famer, Gary Adcock. After college went on to pitch for three seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization before retiring in 2003. 

 

Became the Varsity Pitching Coach at Arlington High School in 2003 helping the Lions to a CIF-SS Division I Semi-final appearance in 2003 and a CIF-SS Division I title in 2004. Was a teacher and Varsity Pitching Coach in 2006 at Hemet West Valley High School. 

 

Became the Head Baseball Baseball Coach at JW North High School in the fall of 2006. Led the Huskies for 10 seasons, winning two Big 8 League titles in 2011 & 2012 and an Inland Valley League title in 2016. Led the Huskies to an improbable run and the 2011 CIF-SS Division I title at Dodger Stadium. The 2011 team finished the season at the #2 team in California and the #12 team in the country. Was named HS Gametime Boys Coach of the Year and was CIF-SS Division 1 Coach of the Year. Took the Huskies to the most prestigious tournaments in California. The National Classic in 2014 & 2015 and the Boras Classic in 2016, where the Huskies finished in 3rd place. Overall the Huskies made 8 CIF-SS Playoff appearances in 10 seasons. Four Huskies were drafted in the MLB 1st year Player Draft during his tenure with the Huskies. Two more former Husky players went on to be drafted in College. 

 

Was named the Head Baseball Coach at ML King High School in the fall of 2016. Led the Wolves for 6 seasons, including the pandemic shortened season. Led the Wolves to a Big 8 League title in 2021 and 4 playoff appearances in 6 seasons (no playoffs in 2020 due to the pandemic). Guided the Wolves and his 2nd RUSD School to the prestigious National Classic in 2019 and the Boras Classic in 2021. Three Wolves were drafted in the MLB 1st Year Player Draft during his tenure at ML King. Two more former Wolves players went on to be drafter in College.

 

After stepping away at the end of the 2022 season, coached Rec Baseball at Orangecrest Pony, guiding the 2023 Pinto All-Star team to the Pinto World Series. Started a free of charge travel baseball organization in 2023 called RepRiv Baseball. RepRiv Baseball is designed to support players that live within the City of Riverside with a no-cost development based travel ball experience.
